Junior Handling
The Western Coton de Tulear Club of Canada believes that the future health of our breed is dependent on the the education and support lent from the experienced dog enthusiast to the next generation. As a regional breed club, we aim to broaden the opportunity & accessibility for young people to become involved in the Coton de Tulear & purebred community.
Junior handling helps develop confidence, sportsmanship, and responsibility while introducing young exhibitors to the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the sport. The WCTC is committed to creating a welcoming environment where juniors can learn about the breed, connect with experienced mentors, and develop an appreciation for responsible dog ownership and breed preservation.
The WCTC supports junior handlers from Pee Wee participation through the Senior classes. Our initiatives include:
Encouraging participation: Promoting involvement for juniors in conformation, obedience, rally, agility, grooming competitions, and more
Education and mentorship: Helping juniors & new owners connect with trustworthy mentors and dogs, to develop long term relationships
Recognizing achievement: Sponsoring junior prizes at dog shows throughout Western Canada
Supporting regional opportunities: Working toward sponsoring a trophy for the top-placing Alberta junior handler at the provincial Zone Finals who handles a dog from the toy group.
Through these efforts, we aim to strengthen our community across Western Canada and throughout the Coton de Tulear breed as a whole, and help ensure that the knowledge, values, and traditions of our breed survive the test of time.
