CHIC-ROM

The Western Coton Club’s proprietary Canine Health Information Center - Register of Merit Program (CHIC-ROM)

In rare breeds such as the Coton de Tulear, the level of data entry is very low, which is detrimental to the current decision making, and future health of our breed. For true, well-rounded, and honest assessment of the Coton, breeders and owners must work together to fill the vertical pedigree with health data. The health data from dogs who are intended for non-breeding is equally as important as the data collected from breeding dogs.

You do not need to be a listed preferred breeder to qualify for our CHIC-ROM program.

A dam who has earned her CHIC and has 6 registered off-spring with a CHIC will qualify for the WCTC’s CHIC-ROM and receive a rosette.

A stud dog who has earned her CHIC and has 8 registered off-spring with a CHIC will qualify for the WCTC’s CHIC-ROM and receive a rosette.

CHIC-ROM HOLDERS:

Results will be verified using the OFA database. Please ensure that your registration numbers are submitted accurately and correctly. If results are split due to incorrect identification, and not viewable as a vertical pedigree, please rectify these issues with the OFA prior to submitting. The preferred method of record for CFC-based dogs is CDN######.

The requirements of the CHIC are determined by the AKC National Purebred Club, the current requirements are as follows (pasted in from here https://ofa.org/chic-programs/browse-by-breed/?breed=CDT). It is not necessary that all results are passing in order to qualify for a CHIC, or CHIC-ROM only that they are posted, as the WCTC strongly values data over the appearance of perfection.

Note that CHIC requirements differ from recommendations in the WCTC’s Code of Ethics.
